A LATE 18TH OR EARLY 19TH CENTURY TIBETAN SHORT DPA'DAM OR SWORD

34cm watered steel blade, characteristic hilt with iron mounts, the guard, collar and pommel decorated to the front with scrolling foliage on a gilt ground, the pommel set with a red stone, white metal wire bound grip, contained in its iron mounted wooden scabbard highlighted with panels of scrolling foliage on a gilt ground, the front panel faced in bullion washed blue silk and affixed with a gilt ornament pierced with scrolling foliage and set with three mounts, one containing a blue stone, green leather panel to the reverse. An old label attached states that this piece was formerly in the Dinely collection and that it was collected by Captain Synqcid in the campaign of 1904 at the Monastery of Dapangat Lhasa.
