Lot 569

AN EXPERIMENTAL PATTERN 1899 CAVALRY TROOPER'S SWORD

85.5cm slightly curved fullered blade with no markings, regulation steel bowl guard, two-piece chequered wooden grips secured with three countersunk bolts, in its steel scabbard with various Ordnance stamps. As opposed to the usual leather grips secured by rivets this sword has removeable wooden grips that are heavily chequered to counter the reported issues regarding slippery grips. The triple bolts would allow for grips to be replaced by Regimental armourers as opposed to being returned to Enfield and is believed to be the only known example.
