A 16TH CENTURY SOUTHERN GERMAN TWO-HANDED PROCESSIONAL SWORD

120.75cm broadsword blade, the elongated ricasso with a pair of crescent form forward facing sharpened lugs, bearing a fleur-de-lis stamp within a shield to one side, characteristic hilt with looping ore and rear guards pierced with a spear form flanked by coil forms, downturned square section quillons tapering to the terminals of serpent forms with coils emerging from their mouths and flanked by horizontal coils on either side, gadrooned pommel, leather covered cord bound grip. The fleur-de-lis stamp, in various forms, attributed to Suhl, Stockel Volume II 5411-5421. See Saint Louis Art Museum Object Number 61:1939 for a sword with similar coil decoration to the hilt.
