A 17TH CENTURY ENGLISH CAVALRY OFFICER'S SWORD

83cm blade incised IOHANO TESCHE flanked by orb and cross forms, characteristic hilt with upturned shell-form guard with fine circular piercings, D-shaped knuckle bow supported by scrolling side bars, down turned quillon, thumb ring, spherical faceted pommel, cloth covered grip with bullion turk's heads. See British Basket-Hilted Swords by Mazansky, page 282 IIIii for a very similar sword which resides in the Royal Armouries IX.1248. The blade signature is that of Johannes Tesche of Wiersberg Germany. One side bar foot lacking.
