A LATE 17TH CENTURY SERGEANT'S VERSION OF THE MATROSSES INFANTRY HANGER

68.5cm curved fullered blade stamped with a running wolf or fox motif and a stylized anchor to either side, characteristic brass hilt with one downturned and one upturned guard, the former cast with a grotesque mask, D-shaped knuckle guard, the pommel cast with profile busts and winged cupids, natural stag's horn grip. See European Swords and Daggers in the Tower of London page 28 plate 67.
