A SCARCE STEEL HILTED 1857 PATTERN ROYAL ENGINEERS OFFICER'S SWORD OF SUDAN INTEREST

90.5cm plain fullered blade stamped with the serial no. 5099 on the back edge, regulation pierced steel hilt, wire bound fishskin grip, contained in its steel scabbard, this with small rip and hole to the steel caused by a bullet strike, old note attached states: My sword saved me serious injury to my leg, having an encounter with the Hadendra Beja in the Sudan, Major M.D. Whitmore.
