AN 18TH CENTURY PENNSYLVANIAN DUTCH POWDER HORN OF CHEROKEE INTEREST

the natural form polished horn body decorated in the typical Pennsylvanian Dutch style with floral displays and birds, cork plug to base with wooden tap, the nozzle with ovoid wooden stopper. Old label attached states it belonged to a Cherokee Indian of Southern Nevada U.S.A. The Cherokee originated around the Carolinas, Georgia & Tennessee. Following the breakdown of the treaty of 1777the Western Cherokee continued the war and in 1839 were move to Indian Territory. During the Civil War they sided with the Confederacy and one can only assume that it was acquired by the Cherokee by trade or war.
