A RARE PATTERN 1842 17TH LANCERS PERCUSSION PISTOL OF CHARGE OF THE LIGHT BRIGADE INTEREST

9inch barrel with double set of proof stamps, the locked marked with a crown over VR and TOWER 1845, the trigger guard engraved XVII Lc F 79 for 17th Lancers F Troop pistol no.79, lanyard swivel in front of the trigger guard, large musket bore. This pistol was specifically designed for the four Regiments of British Lancers, but only the 17th took part in the Charge of the Light Brigade at Balaklava in 1854, hence its historical attribution. It has seen military service and therefore may have been carried in the famous Charge. Good dark patina overall.
