AN EXTREMELY RARE .700 CALIBRE FRENCH FLINTLOCK MODEL 1786 SEA SERVICE PISTOL
9inch barrel, stepped and bevelled lock marked Mre Nle de St. Etienne, half stocked with regulation brass mounts, steel belt hook mounted on the left side. Only a few of these rare pistols were made and only a few survive. Made exclusively for the Naval Guards at the French Toulon Arsenal which was captured by the British in 1793. The young Artillery officer Napoleon took parts in the recapture of the port. See Armes de Poing Militaires Francais P.117.
