A FRENCH FIREMAN'S HELMET FOR THE CHATEAUDUN SERVICE

a good quality all brass example, raised crest with side panel decoration, the ornate frontal plate shows a central fused grenade, laurels, leeks and crossed axes; the title scrolls, 'Sps. Pompiers De Chateaudun'. Circular side supports and graduated chin scales (brass buckle present but leather fastening tab broken). Socket for side plume. Stout brown leather sweat band and lining, good overall condition.
Chateaudun is a commune in the Eure Et Loir Department (Northern France).
