A 1796 PATTERN HEAVY CAVALRY TROOPER'S SWORD TO THE SCOTS GREYS

88cm blade by stamped with a crown over 12, regulation steel disc hilt with langet modification, ribbed leather covered grip, the knuckle guard incised 2=R=NB=DS over D/24 over A/34 the latter crossed out, contained in its steel scabbard stamped WOOLLEY and incised 2=R=NB=DS over D/24. The Royal North British Dragoons or Scots Greys famously formed part of the Union Brigade under Major-General Ponsonby at the Battle of Waterloo and after numerous charges, one against a column of the French 45th Regiment, during which Sergeant Charles Ewart captured their Eagle Standard, they ended the day with 104 dead and 97 Wounded out of 416 participants in the battle.
