A SCARCE WATERLOO PERIOD FRENCH ARMY TAMBOUR (DRUM) MAJOR'S MAMELUKE OR SWORD

74cm curved blade decorated with foliate sprays and stands of arms, all highlighted in gilt on a blued ground, regulation gilt hilt chiselled with scrolling foliage, fluted and reeded horn grip, contained in its gilt scabbard, the hanger mounts finely decorated with the head of Minerva, complete with copper gilt box chain hangers. See Aries No.2 1970 Figs. 3a-3d for a similar example.
