A 19TH CENTURY BRONZED CAST PARADE SHIELD

being similar to that of Henry II of France, centrally decorated in bas relief with a scene of a battle probably Hannibal and the Carthaginians defeating the Romans in 216 B.C., surrounded by strapwork borders containing stands of arms, cornucopiae, classical figures and masks, the reverse with applied maker's button inscribed GRAFL. FACTOREI. ILSENBURG, mounts for wall hanging, 60cm.

The original shield of Henry II is in the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.
