OF TRAFALGAR INTEREST: AN 1804 PATTERN NAVAL TROPHY CUTLASS

84.5cm Spanish blade incised with a crown over R. CS. IV. to one side and CA. DEL. TO. 1803 to the other, for Carlos IV, regulation figure of eight sheet metal hilt, ribbed horn grip. One assumes that the blade was captured from a Spanish naval ship who fought alongside the French against Nelson's navy, and indeed may even have been captured at Trafalgar.
