A 14TH CENTURY SWORD OF OAKESHOTT TYPE XIII

79.7cm double fullered wide broad sword blade, characteristic hilt, the cross guard with tapered quillons drawn out to flared square section terminals, broad, flat tapering tang, stepped wheeled pommel. The imposingly broad nature of this blade measures 5.5cm at its widest. See Image 19 - European and American Arms, Claude Blair, for a not dissimilar sword, from Whittlesea Mere, Huntingdonshire, which resides in the Victoria and Albert Museum.
