awarded to UNTEROFFIZIER PETER HAHN 16th August 1942, of typical form and decorated with two fighting eagles opposing a cross dated 1939 on a spot hammered finish ground, the stem with oak leaves and acorns above UNTEROFFIZIER PETER HAHN AM 16.8.42, the foot inscribed FUR BESONDERE LEISTUNG IM LUFTKRIEG, ("for outstanding achievement in air warfare"), the base marked Feinsilber Alpaka Auflage above the maker's name Joh. Wagner & Sohn.
Herman Goering introduced this award in 1940 and it was for aircrew personnel only. Recipients of this award were later entitled to the Roll of Honour clasp of the Luftwaffe. Pre-1942 Honour Goblets were predominantly made from 835 silver, but then on from "Alpaka" or nickel silver
Peter Hahn is recorded as having been a pilot in a dive-bomber squadron, and was awarded the Iron Cross Class 1, the Iron Cross Class 2, this goblet, and later on January 4th 1943 the German Cross in Gold. It may be that the award date of 1942 for this goblet denotes action on the Russian front.
