Captain Philip Hay served with the Buffs in the West Indies, St Vincent. Having transferred to the 23rd Light Dragoons Hay became embroiled in a dispute with the Earl of Kingston, was Court-martialled, got involved with the rebels in Ireland and his colourful career can be examined in the research included with the sword.
